The Pre Landing Reminder will be indicated if you are closer than 2NM and less than 1500ft above your destination. This may be useful for example to set up a "Gear Down" reminder.

Global settings for all components of Horizon are set in the General Setup (Menu->Setup->General Setup). Most fields should be self-explaining.
